This is a story my mom has told me since I was a kid. When my grandparents used to live in Xalapa, Veracruz, my parents went to visit them when my mom was pregnant with me.
In a warm and humid night in the middle of summer, while having a slow night, something unexpected and almot magical happened; a prophesy for a new life that was about to be born.

Comal is a short film that explores cooking as an embodied knowledge which is carried and used whenever it is necessary to go back to an internal place of familiarity and comfort. Roaming around new lands, far away from the place I come from, I turn to look at the landscape, to shape and rebuild it using the soil of the internal landscapes I carry within me. With this I build a comal: a cooking utensil used in Mexico to make tortillas, the staple Mexican food. In the comal, I find nourishment, warmth and celebration.
